WALT BURKE
MEMORIAL AWARD

WALT BURKE MEMORIAL
AWARD
Walt Burke died January 13, 2009. He lived his
life to serve. Prior to his death, he was the Overall
Livestock Superintendent for the Clackamas County Fair.
He served as the Swine Superintendent and leader of the
Sandy Prime Cuts 4-H Club. His life of service also
included Cherry Park Presbyterian Church and Boy Scouts
of America.
Walt was an advocate for children, whether it be a swine
kid, a goat kid or a beef kid. His cheerful smile always became
brighter when he was talking with kids. Walt remembered just
about all of them too. Even when former 4-H’rs showed up at
Fair packing their own future 4-H’rs he seemed to know them
all.
He was always willing to jump in and help anyone with
anything that he was capable of doing, it didn’t matter what he
was doing, he would be there. If he didn’t have the skills to
help someone out, one could always count on him to find someone
who did.
Walt was passionate about 4H and the Clackamas County Fair.
His commitment to the Fair and 4H could have been called
extreme. He attended Auction Committee Meetings, Livestock
Advisory Meetings and Club Meetings. His involvement didn’t
stop with Fair, he attended Church Meetings and Pork Producers
Meetings. His participation and experience made him the go to
guy for many groups.
The Walt Burke Memorial Award has been created to honor a
Clackamas County Fair participant who exhibits the traits that
made Walt Burke the exceptional man he was. Key Leaders from
Clackamas County 4-H Livestock Clubs and FFA Advisors are
invited to complete a nomination form that will be reviewed by
2 representatives each from the Sandy Prime Cuts 4-H Club,
Clackamas County 4-H Livestock Advisory and the Clackamas
County Junior Livestock Auction Committee. One nomination form
will be accepted per leader or advisor.
