How the
Auction Works
You will be
provided with a sale catalog that lists all of the animals,
along with their weight and owners. As each animal is let
into the ring, the auctioneer asks for bids in cents per
pound. When you wish to bid on an animal, just raise your
hand. The bidding continues until the high bid is reached,
with the animal going to the highest bidder. If you want
help with bidding, there are official Auction Committee
members who will be glad to assist you. Remember, whether
you buy or not, your bidding helps the sale for the young
livestock owners.
If you or
your organization want to help, yet has no use for an
animal, you can buy one at the auction, then resell it at
the backup price to the backup buyer. Your actual cost will
be the difference between the bid price and the backup
price.
For instance, if your winning bid is 2.50 per pound, and the
backup price for animal you purchase is $.90 per pound, your
actual expense is $1.60.
YOUR PURCHASE HELPS YOUTH
& YOU
When you purchase an animal
at the Junior Livestock Auction, you are buying prize
winning livestock raised by 4H and FFA members. Your
purchase helps support the important educational programs of
these youth groups.
It provides you choice beef,
pork, lamb and goat for your dining pleasure. The young
people in 4H and FFA programs are learning to produce the
highest quality food for your table. Being responsible,
engaging in financial obligations and learning how to mange
their own business operation only scratches the surface
of the educational benefits. On a small scale, however,
their costs are higher than commercial producers so YOUR
SUPPORT IS NEEDED.
