SALE ORDER: LAMBS, BEEF, RABBITS, GOATS, CHICKENS, SWINE
1. All market animals must be weighed in at the official initial weigh in designated above and at the final weigh in designated below in rule 2. Each exhibitor will be allowed to weigh in two (2) animals or pens per species at the initial weigh in.
2. The official final weigh in for all animals will be, August 16, 2010 between 6 pm and 9 pm at the Clackamas County Fairgrounds in the designated areas. EXCEPT: Swine weigh in from 2 pm to 9 pm and CHICKENS WILL BE WEIGHED IN AT COOP IN TIME in the poultry barn. Reweighs will NOT be allowed.
3. 4-H and FFA members will be allowed to sell through their high school graduation year. They will be ineligible to sell at the Clackamas County Junior Livestock Auction if they have sold at any other Oregon County Fair in the current year. No chapter or club animals will be sold in the auction.
4. Each sale participant will be allowed to sell only one (1) of the following a) market beef, b) market swine, c) market lamb, d) broiler chickens (pen of 3), e) market goat, or f) market rabbit (pen of three). The one animal to be entered in the auction must be designated by 10:00 am Wednesday August 18, 2010 by turning in an ANIMAL HEALTH RECORD and release slip to the auction office. The member must designate the county of origin on the ANIMAL HEALTH RECORD and sign both the ANIMAL HEALTH RECORD and the release slip. The member takes responsibility for the correct animal being listed on the release slip. If the release slip with the ANIMAL HEALTH RECORD is not turned in, participant will not be eligible to sell. After the release slip is turned in, the animal must be sold unless disqualified by the Brand Inspector or Fair Veterinarian.
5. All market animals must be shown in regular 4-H and FFA Market Classes during the 2010 Clackamas County Fair and have above average conformation in the opinion of the official Clackamas County Fair judge for that species. All market animals must be fed a high concentrate ration beginning not later than the initial weigh in; release slips signed by the participant will acknowledge the feed requirement. Requirements are:
Beef: Grade Select or better. Weigh a minimum of 1000 lbs. Market beet must gain a minimum of 358 lbs. between first weigh in and final weigh in of the current year of the Clackamas County Fair.
Swine: Grade US No. 1 or US No. 2. Weigh between 230 and 280 lbs. Swine must gain a minimum 150 lbs between first weigh in and final weigh in of the current year of the Clackamas County Fair.
Lambs: Grade Choice or better. Weigh a minimum of 110 lbs. Sheep must gain a minimum of 25 lbs between first weigh in and final weigh in of the current year of the Clackamas County Fair. Must be ¼” slick shorn and be dry for final weigh in. Wool on the head and below the knees is allowed.
Chickens: Weigh a minimum of 4.0 pounds each and be less than 8 weeks of age. Only chickens purchased thru the Auction Committee are eligible for the auction program.
Goats : Weigh a minimum of 60 lbs at final weigh in and have been born after January 1, of the current year. Market goats must gain 20 lbs. between first weigh in and final weigh in of the current year of the Clackamas County Fair.
RULE 16: DEFINES HEAVY WEIGHT ANIMAL CONSIDERATIONS
6. Market Chicken Entry forms and a fee of $15.00 payable to Clackamas County Jr. Livestock Auction must be mailed to Kathy Mayfield, North Clackamas Land Lab, 13021 SE Hubbard Rd., Clackamas, OR 97015 not later than May 30, 2010. Each participant will receive 12 wing-banded chicks that will be picked up from the North Clackamas Land Lab at a time to be announced by Kathy Mayfield. A pen of three must be selected from this group to be brought to the fair and entered into the appropriate broiler class.
7. Market Rabbit Rabbits are to be kindled by 4H/FFA Member. Participant may purchase or lease bred does. Does should be bred by May 10, 2010 to kindle by June 9, 2010. Weigh and Check in July 25, 2010, location to be announced. Six (6) animals may be weighed in. Pens may be of mixed breeds or genders. Each rabbit will be tattooed for identification. Participant will enter 3 market rabbits in a market pen. Each must weigh between 4 and 6 lbs. and be no more than 83 days of age August 18, 2009. Market pens will be judged at a time designated by the species superintendents. Market rabbits will sell by the pen.
8. Un-castrated, stag animals, goats or beef with horns will not be eligible to be sold at the auction as determined by the Auction Committee, Judge and/or Veterinarian. All male animals must be castrated prior to initial weigh in. Heifers will be certified open by written certificate from a licensed veterinarian within a 30 day period prior to fair.
9. Brand inspection according to the law in effect at sale time will be enforced. Brand inspection slips, as required by the Department of Agriculture and transportation slips must accompany each beef. These slips must be presented at the official weigh in at the Fair.
10. All animals entered for the auction will be graded live and sold in order of auction line-up. Only Purple Ribbon and Blue Ribbon animals will be eligible to sell in the Auction. All market animals will show in classes divided by weight.
11. USDA requirements for withdrawal of feed additives and medications shall be followed. If the animal is condemned in the slaughter process for violation of USDA requirements, it is the seller’s responsibility to absorb the loss.
12. Participants must present their own animal for sale unless the Auction Manager approves a written request otherwise.
13. Participants will be dressed appropriately for the show/sale ring. The animal will be displayed for the auction as it appeared in conformation class. Gift baskets or other buyer incentives will not be displayed while the animal is being sold.
14. A commission of up to 8% will be charged to each participant to cover auction expenses. This amount will be withheld from the settlement check.
15. Slaughter animals will be transported to listed slaughter plants by designated transporters on Sunday morning August 22, 2010. Beef owners must furnish a rope halter. All other auction animals will be released in accordance with the General Fair Rules and release times. ALL AUCTION BEEF WILL REMAIN IN THE BARN SATURDAY NIGHT.
16. “Buyback Option” BUYBACK Slips MUST be turned in to the Auction Committee by 10:00 am Wednesday August 18, 2010. Buyback elections are irrevocable. Only those animals designated “resale” by the ring buyer are eligible for buyback. Buyback of heavy market animals may the responsibility of the participant. Market heifers and/or market steers that weigh in at over 1350 lbs., swine weighing between 271 and 280 lbs, and goats weighing over 100 lbs. are considered heavy animals. The resale price for market heifers may not be the same as the resale price for market steers. No live resale animals will be sold to any individuals other than their original owner.
17. All participants are encouraged to secure their own buyers. All pledge forms must be turned in no later than 10:00 am Wednesday, August 18, 2010. NO EXCEPTIONS. ALL pledges must be accompanied by check or cash or they will not be accepted. NO MEAT PURCHASE PLEDGES WILL BE ACCEPTED.
18. Each participant is required to have his/her picture taken at the time posted. This picture will be put on the buyer’s poster. One (1) picture per animal.
19. Participants in the Auction must care for and feed their animal on a daily basis during the fair to be eligible to sell their animal in the auction, unless the Auction Committee has approved a written request. ALL Beef should be washed, dried and be in the barn by 9:00 am Saturday for paint branding.
20. A. General Grievance Procedure: The auction manager shall be in charge of all interpretation and the applications of these rules. If anyone has a grievance with the manager’s decision, a grievance must be filed in writing with the Auction Committee Chairman, at PO Box 1102, Canby, OR 97013, within 10 days of said decision. The Auction Committee at the next regularly scheduled meeting following the grievance filing date will render a decision. The decision of the committee shall be final and binding.
B. Fair time Grievance Procedure: The auction manager shall be in charge of all interpretation and the applications of these rules. If an exhibitor has a grievance with the manager’s decision, a grievance must be filed in writing within twenty-four hours with the Auction Committee Manager. A fair time grievance committee will meet and render a decision within twenty-four hours of receiving the grievance. The fair grievance committee shall consist of a minimum of three-elected committee members. (Excludes the manager) The decision of the committee shall be final and binding. Copies of the grievance and the Auction Committees decision will be forwarded in writing to the Clackamas County Fair Board.
CLACKAMAS COUNTY 4-H AND FFA
MARKET STEER, HOG, LAMB, AND GOAT RATE OF GAIN CONTEST
GENERAL RULES:
1. ALL rules of the Junior Livestock Auction must be followed to qualify for the Rate of Gain Contest. Only the animal designated for the sale is eligible for the Rate of Gain Contest.
2. Awards will be presented for the top FIVE animals in the Beef, Sheep and Swine, and Goat Departments as follows:
First Place $150.00
Second Place $100.00
Third Place $75.00
Fourth Place $50.00
Fifth Place $25.00
3. Rate of Gain Placing will be determined as follows:
a. Highest average daily gain will receive first place, second highest gain will receive second place and so forth to fifth place.
b. Ties will be broken by sale order.
c. Final weight minus starting weight equals total gain.
d. Total gain divided by number of days on feed equals average daily gain.
